How we calculate this
Topsoil volume = area × depth ÷ 27, using the same core formula as every bulk material calculator. Topsoil depth depends heavily on use — thinner for lawn top-dressing, deeper for raised beds and new plantings.

For new lawns, plan for 4–6 inches of topsoil over existing grade. For garden beds, 6–12 inches is common depending on what you're planting.
